Body of missing woman, 73, found frozen to death blocks from her Bronx home: police

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The body of a 73-year-old woman who went missing on Saturday was found frozen to death a few blocks from her Bronx apartment, officials said Monday.

Police say the body of Genovera Madera was found at approximately 3:30 p.m., near a playground by the overpass above the Cross Bronx Expressway.

Madera left her apartment around 8 p.m. on Feb. 15, wearing a fleece jacket and slippers but never returned according to officials.

She was reported missing by family members.

Madera lived alone in an apartment E. 176th Street and suffered from dementia the Daily News reports.

A home health aide helped Madera during the day, and her sister would visit to check on her, the report adds.
