NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- It didn't take long for Mayor Bill de Blasio to catch grief for his presidential ambitions.
Councilman Joe Borelli (R-SI) is circulating a petition calling for the mayor to step down if he plans to use his time on a presidential campaign.
"Chasing the toughest job in the country doesn’t leave much time to actually do the second toughest," the website for the petition reads, "Tell de Blasio to resign if he plans on spending 2 years running for President!"
"Since Mayor de Blasio is announcing he is running for President, he should also say he is stepping down. I wish him luck and thank him for his service," Borelli said.
One of the mayor's hometown papers took a jab of its own. The New York Post's cover featured a group of people eating popcorn and laughing at a headline announcing de Blasio's decision to run.
President Trump didn't spare the mayor either, calling him a joke and 'the worst mayor in the U.S.'
An unscientific Twitter poll by 1010 WINS found little support for a de Blasio run.
