NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 3-year-old boy was burned after an illegal firework came flying through the window of his Bronx apartment and exploded, police said.

The boy was in his sixth-floor apartment on Anderson Street, near West 167th Street, in the Highbridge section around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday when a bottle rocket flew in through his bedroom window.

The firework exploded in the room, burning his left arm, police said.

He was treated for minor injuries at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

A group of people was seen setting off fireworks in the street shortly before the boy was hit, but no arrests have been made, police said.

The terrifying incident comes amid an explosion in illegal firework use across the city, with thousands of complaints placed to the city this month.

On Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the city was creating a fireworks task force to crack down on "big fish" suppliers of the explosives.
