Now, Eric Gonzalez wants to decriminalize prostitution.
Gay City News reports, Gonzalez told a forum held by Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn that this would not apply to pimps or sex traffickers.
Gonzalez said his office is already handling prostitution cases in a 'soft prosecution' manner, giving defendants desk appearance tickets and requiring work with a social service group before their case is dismissed.
"There is no prosecution. No one goes to jail," Gonzalez said.
The DA said he would also consider backing a law legalizing prostitution, but only if tough measures remained for sex traffickers.
