The New York Mets are optioning utility man Ronny Mauricio to Triple-A Syracuse to make room on the roster for outfielder Tommy Pham, per multiple reports.
Pham, 38, gives the Mets another true outfield option with Juan Soto on the injured list, and the move will also get Mauricio everyday reps in Triple-A.
The veteran, who signed a minor-league deal on Opening Day, slashed .245/.330/.370 with 10 home runs in 120 games for the Pirates last year, will officially begin his second stint with the Mets as soon as the moves are official.
Pham was with the Amazins for the first half of the 2023 season, slashing .268/.348/.472 with 10 homers and 36 RBI in 79 games before being dealt to Arizona.
