Brooklyn lawyer charged in years-old sex assault cases

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police have charged a Brooklyn lawyer in a series of frightening Manhattan sex attacks from several years ago.

Rashaun Kelley is described by police as a business lawyer, but he’s now facing burglary, sex abuse and attempted rape charges related to sex assault cases that date back 4 years.

The 35-year-old is accused of attacking three women in East Harlem and the East Village.

Police believe he might be responsible for at least two more cases for a total of five.

Kelley would sneak into the apartment buildings of his victims before assaulting them, according to police.

In the first attack in December 2014, he allegedly followed a 19-year-old woman into an elevator, forcibly kissed her and grabbed her rear-end.

In another incident that same month, a 31-year-old woman was approached by a man who groped her and pulled her pants down in the entrance to her apartment building.

Similar cases followed, authorities say, adding that it took years for Special Victims detectives to build a case around Kelley.

The evidence against him includes surveillance video, police say.

It wasn't immediately clear if Kelley had an attorney who could comment on the charges.
