In a statement, Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. said his office “initiated a prosecution of Amy Cooper for Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree.”
"Our office will provide the public with additional information as the case proceeds,” he wrote in the statement. “At this time I would like to encourage anyone who has been the target of false reporting to contact our Office.”
“We are strongly committed to holding perpetrators of this conduct accountable,” he added.
Cooper received a desk appearance ticket on Monday for an arraignment that is scheduled for Oct. 14, the DA's office said.
Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted that he is pleased with the decion to prosecute Cooper.
"Good," he tweeted," early Monday night. "Her racist behavior could have had dire consequences for a Black man. Glad she’ll face consequences of her own."
