One of the organizers of the effort say purple is the color of domestic violence awareness.
The mother of three was killed and her burned body dumped in a storage locker.
Her estranged husband and his girlfriend are facing murder charges.
Michael Cammarata was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
The Staten Island Advance reports that Jeanine's two children were in the car when their mother's body was dumped at the storage facility.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows the couple, accompanied by five oblivious kids, with a plastic bin that was later discovered along with air fresheners and Cammarata's charred body, sources told the Advance.
Two of the children were Jeanine and Michael's, they are now in the custody of Michael's sister.
