NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- During his daily briefing on Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio discussed the Gracie Mansion protests, saying that demonstrators voiced their opinions.

He announced that the city council is hearing four bills including the chokehold ban.

"People have the right to record interactions with cops," de Blasio said.

If passed, the bill would ensure police numbers and badges are visible as well as early interventions on any officers who need additional training and monitoring.

"We want to make sure that police are not allowed to act in the way that we’ve been seeing."

De Blasio also proposed that as part of what will be done will be painting streets and renaming streets with Black Lives Matter messages.

The mayor told reporters that the repeal of 50-a helps the city to know if you are an officer who has been accused of excessive force "because we need to know if an officer has something in the past that is 'flaggable,' even if unsubstantiated."
