HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- Connecticut will allow more people at private indoor and outdoor gatherings when the state enters Phase II of its reopening on Wednesday, Gov. Ned Lamont said Tuesday.

Starting Wednesday, the state will allow up to 25 people at private indoor gatherings, and up to 100 people at private outdoor gatherings, Lamont said during his daily briefing. Indoor gatherings are currently capped at 10 people, while outdoor ones are capped at 25 people.

Private gatherings "tend to be invitation only or you know everybody who's going to be there, so if there was a flare-up, if somebody was found to be infected, track-and-trace is a lot easier to manage," he said of the state's rationale for raising the caps.

Connecticut could raise the limit on the number of people allowed at outdoor gatherings to 250 in mid-July, with "social distancing protocols" in effect, he noted.

"That gives you some indication about private gatherings… like a wedding, and such," he said. "So those are things you can plan accordingly, knowing there's a fair amount of risk."

Lamont on Tuesday reported 6 new COVID-19 deaths and 114 new cases, bringing the state's death toll to 4,210 and its positive case total to 45,349.

Phase II of the state's reopening starts this Wednesday, June 17 and includes the following sectors:

  • Amusement parks
  • Hotels
  • Indoor dining
  • Indoor museums, zoos, and aquariums
  • Indoor recreation (e.g. bowling, movie theaters, etc.)
  • Libraries
  • Outdoor events
  • Personal services (e.g. nail salons, tattoo parlors, etc.)
  • Sports and fitness facilities (e.g. gyms, fitness centers, pools, etc.)
