Cops release cabbie in Queens hit-and-run that killed woman

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A young woman was struck and killed by a cab driver in Queens on Sunday in what witnesses described as a chaotic scene.

Those who knew 26-year-old Sherena Hundalini say she was hard working and well loved by family.

But her life was over without warning around 4 p.m. when witnesses say a green Lincoln Town Car heading north on 63rd Road in Rego Park drove into a Mobil station at Queens Boulevard and ran her over.

Witnesses say the driver kept on going after he struck her.

One witness, Brian Alston, told CBS 2 the 55-year-old driver of the cab appeared disoriented and like he was "trying to evade somebody."

"It looked like a scene out of 'Grand Theft Auto,' like the guy's driving literally on the sidewalk for like half of the block," he said.

Witnesses say he came to a stop about a block away as people pounded on his windows.

Despite what witnesses told police, the NYPD released the driver without charging him.

Police told 1010 WINS that highway patrol investigators are working the tragic case.
