"The MVC is probably the most visited agency in state government and it will be back to serve you all on June 15," Murphy said.
The governor said in-person customer services will restart on June 15, with a variety of pick-up and drop-off services.
Murphy said the MVC aims to offer behind-the-wheel road tests and resume the issuance of new licenses and permits starting on June 29.
The governor also announced he had extended the state's public health emergency for an additional 30 days to early July. The emergency allows the governor to take actions under the Emergency Health Powers Act and is different from the state of emergency, which remains in place.
According to NJ.com, the health emergency "extends all of Murphy's executive orders that remain in place to respond to the virus," including his stay-at-home order.
"We will continue our path forward, while remaining vigilant and prepared to act should there be a new outbreak of COVID-19," he said.
He said the state was still on track to reach Stage 2 of the reopening on June 15.
"To be absolutely clear … we are fully continuing our preparations for entering Stage 2 on June 15 unabated," Murphy said.
Murphy said there were 864 new coronavirus cases from Thursday to Friday, bringing the statewide total to 163,336.
The governor reported 79 new deaths from COVID-19. The state's death toll is now 12,049.
