NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The total number of coronavirus cases in New York City is 3,615, Mayor Bill De Blasio announced Thursday afternoon, a jump of 1,871 since Wednesday night.
The number of deaths also doubled since then from 11 to the current 22.
Here is a breakdown by borough:
1,030 - Brooklyn980 -Queens976 - Manhattan436 - Bronx165 - Staten Island
In a late afternoon press conference, de Blasio there are 10 new testing sites at multiple hospitals in NYC to serve about 150 people per day. People will need appointments to be tested.
He also said NYC needs at least 15,000 ventilators by early April to fight this crisis and called out President Donald Trump for "not using the tools of your office."
"Right now, you are the Herbert Hoover of your generation," de Blasio said. "You are watching and waiting and missing every chance to be bold, and to act, and to protect our nation ... I will only say to the president, 'I don't understand' and I think there are millions and tens of millions of Americans who don't understand what you're doing right now."
So far, 1,746 retired healthcare workers have volunteered to help during the coronavirus outbreak, the mayor added.
