A total of 31,611 people in Westchester have now tested positive for the virus, and 1,245 have died, according to Latimer

The number of COVID-19 deaths has been “very small” for the last few weeks, barring an “unusual” spike a week ago, Latimer said.

That spike may have been due to the reporting of previously-unreported deaths, he noted. The county reported nine deaths and 90 new cases on Monday.

“We hope that we’re all reaching the point at which we can satisfy the state’s parameters for beginning the process of opening,” he said.

As of Wednesday, Westchester had 2,985 active cases — down from a peak of around 11,000 cases. Hospitalizations remained below 500, at 498, Latimer said.
