NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- There's already a law requiring calorie and sodium counts on menus at fast food restaurants in the New York City.
Now City Councilman Mark Levine wants to pour a little sugar on it.Levine introduced a bill that would also require menus to indicate when an item contains more than 12 grams of added sugar, saying people would be shocked if they knew how much sugar was in certain fast foods. For example, Levine says there's 40 grams of sugar in Wendy's Apple Pecan Chicken Salad -- that about 10 teaspoons worth.A state coalition representing restaurants says this will only add to more consumer confusion.
The bill would impose fines from $200-$2,500 on restaurants that violate the proposed law.
