NEW YORK (1010 WINS) —Gov. Cuomo ordered the U.S. Department of Financial Services to look into reports that Facebook's advertising platform was being using discriminatingly by state-regulated advertisers.
Previously this year, Cuomo had two state agencies check into reports that the company might be obtaining more personal informatin from smartphone usres than had been revealed.
Cuomo said that the action was based on reports that Faceook's platform lets advertisers modify or block ads using zip code information which can discriminate against protected classifications, like race, color, national origin, religion, familian status, sex and disability.
"I am calling on the Department of Financial Services to investigate these claims and help ensure that New Yorkers seeking housing for themselves and their families are not discriminated against in any way," Cuomo said in a press release.
