Cuomo reports hospitalizations reach 'new lows again,' 2 new COVID-19 deaths

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo speaks during a COVID-19 briefing on July 6, 2020 in New York City.

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo reported two new COVID-19 deaths and 476 new cases on Monday as the number of ICU patients and hospitalizations in New York state "reached new lows again."

A total of 421,336 COVID-19 tests conducted in New York state have now come back positive, and 25,204 people have died of complications related to the virus, Cuomo said in a press release.

One of the people whose deaths Cuomo reported on Monday passed away in Manhattan. The other person passed away in Rensselaer County, he said.

As of Sunday, 535 people in the state were hospitalized with COVID-19 — a new low since March 17 — and 127 people were in intensive care units — a new low since March 16, he said. Sixty-two patients were on ventilators. The state's positivity rate currently stands at 0.88 percent, he said.

"Our numbers reflect the work of everyone in this state, and the number of ICU patients and hospitalizations have reached new lows again," Cuomo said in a statement.

"We are fighting on two fronts to protect our progress: We are fighting against the rise of cases across the nation, and we are fighting against lack of compliance within our own state," he said. "While most establishments are complying, it's the few that are not in compliance that pose a threat to our progress."

"This is an enforcement issue, not an information issue," he added. "I need the local governments and the local police departments to enforce — it's that simple."
