NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Protesters on Tuesday night took to the streets of Rochester's Jefferson Avenue -- where a "spit hood" was placed over Daniel Prude's head by police officers on March 23 -- to paint "Black Lives Matter" in massive yellow letters, something that has become a common sight in cities across the country.
Protesters also marched to the Public Safety Building, which houses the Rochester Police Department. Those who took to the streets danced and sang, while expressing their demand for justice in Prude's death.
Earlier in the day, Police Chief La’Ron Singletary, Deputy Chief Joseph M. Morabito and two commanders retired, while two more deputy chiefs and a commander gave up top leadership positions and returned to lower ranks.
It comes more than five months after Prude, a Black man, died several after police had put a "spit hood" on him. His family has filed a federal lawsuit alleging a cover-up by law enforcement.
