NEW YORK (1010 WINS)The Puerto Rican Day parade is this Sunday.

It’s considered a must-attend event for local politicians, but Mayor de Blasio has decided to skip it, so he can go out to Iowa to campaign for president.

There is no comment yet from the parade organizers, but de Blasio’s sometimes friend, sometimes enemy Gov. Cuomo, when told of the mayor’s decision, said “I am without thought. My mind goes blank.”

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. told the New York Post, “Even when he’s here, what does he do that is of tremendous help? Like, what does his presence add to all of the issues we have? Zero. So if he chooses to go to Iowa, God bless him.”

The mayor was also missing from D-day events in the city yesterday, which did not go over well with veteran Herbert Sweat, who told CBS2, “He is the mayor of one of the largest populated cities in the world and for him not to be here today seems to be a strike against what we stand for in the military,”

De Blasio noted that he is the son of a World War 2 veteran and that he has done a lot for veterans, including establishing the first city-level agency devoted to Veterans’ Affairs.
