NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York City mayor Bill de Blasio will announce on Thursday morning he's joining the presidential race.

Sources tell 1010 WINS de Blasio will release a video announcing his run overnight, ahead of an apperance on "Good Morning America" with his wife Chirlane.

His announcement means he will be joining more than 20 other Democratic presidential hopefuls, and pitting himself against the likes of Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Beto O'Rourke, Kamala Harris and another mayor -- Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana.

De Blasio will then travel to Iowa and South Carolina over four days, a spokeswoman for de Blasio told AP. Chirlane will join him in those states.

At a press conference on Monday at Trump Tower, he said he would announce his decision this week.
