NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A young woman from Turkey was found dead in a small bedroom above a pizza shop in Queens, and police are searching for the person who stabbed her to death.
The decomposing body of 28-year-old Dhuha Sabaa was discovered in a second-floor apartment above a Domino’s Pizza on Steinway Street on Thursday.
Police had been called to the apartment because of a foul odor.
Sabaa was pronounced dead at the scene and investigators believe she was stabbed in the torso, ruling her death a homicide.Store owners say they saw Sabaa walking around alone and going from job to job to make money, mostly as a cleaner.
One food vendor told ABC7 that she appeared to be having a tough time.
“Like a day before or two days before she's coming to me and asked for food,” food vendor Ferid Sabeu said. “I gave her food. She told me I don't have money to pay. I tell her it's no problem. When you have money you pay it to me.”
Sabaa reportedly had moved to the neighborhood from Jackson Heights last month and was working to bring her family to the U.S.
Police urge anyone with information to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-8477.
