It was then that he was approached by a benefactor who asked if he could expand the operation, and the Dog Guy Foundation was born, with donations funding professional grooming services in at least one of the city's three animal shelters nearly seven days a week.
In certain instances, the foundation services can be lifesaving, as severe matting can cut off circulation to limbs and even cause gangrene. In extreme cases, Imhof says, his staff and a medical team will work in concert, with the animal sedated for a pain-free grooming.
And yes, they also groom cats if needed.
