NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Animal advocates are trying to save a paralyzed rescue dog who they say could be euthanized after days in quarantine at JFK Airport.
The dog, a border collie mix named Berry, has been at the airport since Monday, when Centers for Disease Control and Prevention workers judged her to be a public health risk because of her disability and a typo in her rabies paperwork, the New York Post reported.
The person who brought Berry to the U.S. from Jordan abandoned her and it’s unclear if Royal Jordanian Airlines, which reportedly now has possession of her, will pay to have her boarded for at least 28 days of quarantine.
Meredith Festa, of the non-profit Paws Unite, told the Post that the dog could be euthanized if a decision isn’t made by Friday. She said Paws Unite has offered to pay the money needed to support the dog.
“The airline decides whether she lives or dies,” Festa said. “I don’t think she should have been flown thousands of miles to die.”
This week The Kris Kelly Foundation, an animal rescue group, posted an Instagram video of Berry to get word of her story out.
