NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An MTA worker is being treated for a leg injury after he was pushed onto subway tracks by a drunk straphanger on Saturday morning.
Police arrested 50-year-old Krzfztof Chowaniec after the brazen subway push at the M/R Grand Avenue-Newton station in Elmhurst.
The New York Post reports that Chowaniec was seen pacing on the Manhattan-bound platform of the station around 1:30 a.m.
Police say Chowaniec then pushed the 58-year-old, on-duty MTA employee onto the tracks in an "unprovoked" attack.
The worker was rescued from the tracks by fellow workers. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with a sprained ankle.
Chowaniec reportedly suffered a head injury after walking into a metal beam moments later.
He was charged with reckless endangerment and assault.
