NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Rock musician Eddie Money has died at the age of 70, his family says.

The singer-songwriter and Brooklyn native was best known for his 1970s and 80s hits like "Baby Hold On," "Two Tickets to Paradise" and "Take Me Home Tonight."

His family issued a statement saying he passed away peacefully early this morning.

"It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband and father," the statement reads. "We cannot imagine our world without him. We are grateful that he will live on forever through his music."

Money, born Edward Joseph Mahoney, grew up in Plainedge, Long Island. He was enrolled at the New York Police Academy for several years in the 1960s. He was pursuing a career in the NYPD like his father before he ultimately decided to follow his dream of being a musician and moved to California, his website says.

Money recently revealed that he was battling stage 4 esophageal cancer during the second season of his reality show "Real Money."

"What I don't want to do is I don't want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody," Money said at the time. "It's not honest. I want to be honest with everybody."
