NEW YORK (1010 WINS) --  Former Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis issued a statement through his lawyer denying a reported rape allegation made against him.

The statement says they unequivocally deny the claim and says the accuser made extortion demands, which have been reported to federal law enforcement.

A story in New York Post said that the NYPD is probing a rape allegation made against Porzingis, citing police sources who say it was a neighbor he'd invited up to his luxury midtown apartment and that it happened, just hours after the 23-year-old power forward tore his ACL in a game against the Bucks at the Garden. The woman also reportedly agreed to stay quiet, when Porzingis offered her hush money though police aren't sure if any cash ever actually changed hands.

The attorney's statement also says that they alerted the NBA months ago, about the ongoing investigation.

Mark Cuban, the owner of the Mavericks the team Porzingis now plays for, says they've been instructed by federal authorities not to comment.
