According to the report, just after 1:15 a.m., the 63-year-old former officer was standing outside of her home located on Noble Avenue in Soundview when 33-year-old Michael Carter tried to mug her.

Carter ignored the woman when she told him to back up and he chased her into her house as she tried to run away, officials said.

The New York Post reports that Carter allegedly pinned the woman against a wall and threatened her with a black cable box when the former cop pulled her licensed .38 revolver, shooting him once in the thigh.

She was able to contain the man until cops arrived, the report adds.

Carter was taken to Jacobi Hospital for treatment and charged with robbery and burglary according to officials.

The report adds that the former officer was taken to Einstein Hospital where she was treated for tinnitus.
