NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An NYPD officer was shot on Prince Street on Staten Island Tuesday morning, said officials.
Police were at the location after a woman reported being the victim of domestic violence, said NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill.
The woman met two officers outside and pointed out the assailant, around 8:30 a.m.
Officers then confronted the suspect, who resisted, outside 20 Prince Street, O'Neill said.
The suspect was tasered in the struggle, and officers grabbed his arm to try to prevent him from firing a gun.
The suspect fired two shots, and the police fired three.
The suspect was a 39-year-old man who had served five years in prison for a previous shooting, O'Neill added.
The officer was brought to Richmond University Medical Center.
The officer joined the force in January 2016 and was assigned to the 120th precinct.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the officer "acted bravely and heroically."
