
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A car burst into flames in the Lincoln Tunnel on Sunday evening, temporarily shutting the busy tunnel down in both directions.
The fire closed all lanes of the tunnel around 5 p.m., according to the city Office of Emergency Management.
The center tube was closed indefinitely as of 6:45 p.m. The two outer tubes were open.
There was about an hour delay into the tunnel shortly before 7 p.m. Buses headed to the Port Authority terminal were experiencing similar delays.
Maria Chang captured video of the car spewing smoke and flames shortly before 5:30 p.m.
Drivers are urged to take alternate routes.
No injuries have been reported.
