NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man was fatally shot on the George Washington Bridge in a case of suspected road rage Tuesday evening, law enforcement sources said Wednesday as police continued to search for the killer.

The 46-year-old victim was driving a blue Volkswagen on the upper level of the bridge around 7 p.m. when he was shot.

According to sources, surveillance footage shows the Volkswagen nearly colliding with another car near the 179th Street ramp. Moments later, both vehicles were headed westbound towards New Jersey when a single shot was fired from the other car into the Volkswagen, striking the driver.

The victim, who was shot in the lower head and shoulder area, then crashed into the center median about mid-span. Port Authority police found him unconscious and unresponsive in the driver seat. He was pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital.

The victim, identified as Koran Irvin, was a Con Edison employee from Valley Cottage, Rockland County, officials said. He was not working at the time, according to sources.

In a statement to media outlets, Con Edison said, "We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a member of the Con Edison family in this senseless act of violence. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew and loved him."

Police were continuing to search Wednesday for the shooter. No description of the suspect or the vehicle has been released.
