NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The Four Freedoms Park will unveil New York City’s largest LGBTQ Pride Flag.
The Park’s 12-foot-by-100-foot grand staircase will transform into a gigantic Pride flag, from Friday, June 14 to Sunday, June 30, in celebration of the progress that’s been made over the past 50 years, and to shine a light on the LGBTQ community’s continued fight for the universal human rights articulated in President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms.
The staircase will be officially unveiled by FDR's great-granddaughter, Julia Ireland during a June 15 “Ascend With Pride” ceremony happening at the same time as World Pride, which is being held in New York for the first time in honor of the Stonewall uprising's 50th anniversary.
The staircase at Four Freedoms Park, opened in 2012 and is located on the southern tip of New York City’s Roosevelt Island.
