Friend of missing Staten Island dad charged with murder

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man arrested on drug and domestic violence charges last month on Staten Island was charged Monday in the death of a father missing since before Christmas.

Angelo Nesimi was arrested in late December and charged following a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend, Zammara Sanchez, who was also detained.

An indictment against Nesimi was unsealed Monday charging him with murder in the case of missing Staten Island dad Michael Stewart.

Prosecutors described a stabbing and a week of destroying evidence. Prosecutors say Nesimi had help cleaning up from his landlord who allegedly dumped evidence at his commercial property.

"He has no knowledge that anything even occurred in that apartment, if anything even occurred in that apartment," his attorney said.

Nesimi faces charges of manslaughter, concealment of a human corpse and tampering with evidence, according to the Staten Island Advance.

Nesimi's attorney, Mario Gallucci, said the allegations against him were "the musings of a jilted lover."

The Daily News reported that Nesimi's girlfriend made references to a possible murder involving her boyfriend.

Nesimi and Sanchez were reportedly seen on surveillance video tossing something into a Perth Amboy dumpster.

Stewart, a 40-year-old father of two, vanished on Dec. 20 and was last seen at O'Neills, a pub on Forest Avenue.

He and Nesimi were captured on surveillance footage outside of a Port Richmond barber shop shortly before he disappeared.

The NYPD ruled Stewart's death a homicide earlier this month. His cousin said the family just wants justice.

"I mean put yourself in our shoes ya know, I can't describe it," he said.

Authorities searched a Pennsylvania landfill for his body but came up empty handed.
