NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A fuel tanker hit a barrier in Brooklyn on Saturday, sending hundreds of gallons of fuel spilling onto surrounding streets.
City Councilman Brad Lander says the fuel truck was carrying 8,100 gallons of gasoline when it struck the temporary barrier, causing the vehicle’s discharge valve to break.
Lander says 1,000 gallons of gasoline spilled onto the street and into a nearby Con Edison manhole.
Con Edison, National Grid, the MTA and the Department of Environmental Protection’s hazmat team are responding to the spill.
Citizen App video shows firefighters hosing down the road near Fourth Avenue and Warren Street in Boerum Hill. Nearby streets and sidewalks appear to have been closed by authorities.
Lader says the FDNY applied a foam product to help stop the spill from spreading.
No injuries have been reported.
