NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The fur industry is fighting back against proposed legislation in the City Council that would ban the sale of fur in the city.
Tens of thousands of mailers have gone out from the Fur Information Council of America.
One mailer shows a teenage boy with braces wearing a powder blue suit and a bow tie. The caption: "Your mother told you what to wear. Now the City Council wants to tell you what to wear. Don't let them."
The mailer takes aim at Council Speaker Corey Johnson, who is behind the ban on the grounds that the fur industry is cruel.
Political insiders theorize that Johnson is thinking about running for mayor and trying to score points with the animal rights crowd in the wake of Mayor Bill de Blasio's failure to get rid of carriage horses.
