NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Osama bin Laden's son Hamza bin Laden -- who has been regarded as a potential successor to his father -- is dead, according to multiple reports, citing sources.

President Donald Trump refused to comment Wednesday on the reports, telling reporters, "I don't want to comment on it. I don't want to comment on that. Thank you very much, everybody."

The New York Times reported that details of the strike that killed him were scarce, such as when and where. But the U.S. government did play a role in his death -- it's just unclear to what extent.

Hamza Bin Laden -- whose father was the mastermind behind the 9/11 terror attacks -- was killed sometime during the first two years of the Trump administration, though, the Times reported. Osama bin Laden was killed in a U.S. military raid in Pakistan in May 2011.

He was killed before the State Department announced a $1 million reward for information about his whereabouts in February, but American military and intelligence agencies had not confirmed his death by then.

Hamza bin Laden was named a "specially designated global terrorist" in January 2017. He had released audio and video messages calling for attacks against the U.S. and its allies.
