NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Fall-like temperatures are headed to the Northeast in wake of midweek heat and storms.

A heat advisory is in place for the city and suburbs until 8 p.m. Thursday and from Thursday to the first part of Friday, showers are likely.

Thursday will be hot and humid again, with a high of 90, but Realfeels nearing 100, and a thunderstorm around for the afternoon.

Thursday night could feature a thunderstorm but will be less oppressive with a low of 69.

A wave of cool air will be pushed in causing a major cooldown from the heat advisory earlier in the week, and lowering humidity over the area.

As the cooler and less humid air takes root on Friday, temperature highs will be in the upper 70s to the upper 80s F will be replaced with highs in the upper 60s to the upper 70s over the weekend.

Friday and Saturday are expected to be cooler with highs in the upper 70s.

Nighttime lows are forecast to be in the 40s and 50s.
