NEW YORK (1010 WINS) —After moving pleas from 9/11 first responders, the House of Representatives voted Friday to reauthorize the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund and make it permanent.

The bill next goes to the Senate, where a vote is expected next month.

Sponsors announced that the legislation will be renamed “Never Forget the Heroes Act” in honor of late first responders James Zadroga, Luis Alvarez and Ray Pfeifer.

On the floor, spearkers are invoking Alvarez's name and testimony and Speaker Nancy Pelosi calls it a "holy moment."

Alvarez, an NYPD detective who contracted cancer after his work at Ground Zero, testified before Congress last month to garner support for the bill just days before he died.
