Jersey City police officer beats two other NJ residents to win 'Survivor' season 40

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A police officer from Jersey City took the top prize on “Survivor: Winners at War” on Wednesday, beating two other finalists from New Jersey.

Tony Vlachos, who lives in Allendale, got a $2 million prize for winning the 40th season of “Survivor” Wednesday night.

Vlachos also won the 28th season of “Survivor." He claimed Wednesday night’s victory by beating Natalie Anderson, who lives in Edgewater, and Michele Fitzgerald, who lives in Hoboken. 

“WE did it! WE defied all odds!,” Vlachos tweeted after his win. “I GENUINELY appreciate ALL of you believers and hope I proved it by the way I played!”

Vlachos and the two other Jersey finalists even got a shoutout from New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Wednesday. Murphy retweeted a photo of the three, adding the hashtag #JerseyStrong.
