NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Service on much of the L line, including all of Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn, will be suspended this weekend as an escalator is installed at Union Square.

The MTA says all service will be shut down between Eighth Avenue in Manhattan and Broadway Junction in Brooklyn starting at 10:45 p.m. Friday.

The shutdown lasts until 5 a.m. Monday; service will be up and running again for the weekday morning rush, the MTA says.

Service between Broadway Junction and Canarsie in Brooklyn will be operating as normal over the weekend.

Riders looking to get between Manhattan and the affected parts of Brooklyn are advised to take the A, C, G, J and M trains. There will also be M14 bus service and free shuttle buses.

The MTA says more L train service suspensions are coming on weekends in October and November as work is done on station elevators. During those weekends, there will be no L service between 14th Street and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan.

L trains are already only running every 20 minutes on overnights and weekends as the MTA continues major repairs on a subway tunnel between Manhattan and Brooklyn.
