Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who arrived at the scene after the crash, told reporters, "This is very preliminary information ...  there was a helicopter that made an emergency landing or landed on the roof for one reason or another and there was a fire when the helicopter hit the roof. People in the building felt the building shake. The fire is under control. There may have been causalities. We do not know. We don't know what caused the helicopter to land on the building ... People in the building itself, no one has been hurt ... They're not defining it as a hard landing or an emergency landing just that the helicopter landed on the building which caused the fire."

WCBS-TV reported that one person was injured. WABC reported that one person was killed.

Buildings in the area were evacuated.

787 7th ave, #midtown NYC. We're 1 block south. 20 mins ago there was a loud sound like a too-low #helicopter & I looked up and saw sheet of flame on roof and then smoke. News reports saying helicopter/small plane crash onto roof which would be consistent with what I heard/saw. pic.twitter.com/swY3ksLskH
