TRENTON (1010 WINS) – New Jersey lawmakers planned committee hearings Monday on a measure legalizing the recreational use of marijuana in the state.
Gov. Phil Murphy and legislative leaders announced an agreement on the measure last week.

If the two committees clear the bill Monday, a vote to legalize the adult use of marijuana could come as soon as March 25, according to Asbury Park Press.
Under the agreement, cannabis would be taxed at $42 an ounce.
There would also be a five-person regulatory commission under the deal and the convictions of those arrested for low-level marijuana offenses would be erased.
If the bill becomes law, New Jersey would join 10 states and D.C. in legalizing the drug.
