SAYVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island man left his grandmother blind after gouging her eyes out during a fight, authorities say.
Michael Grief, 30, faces three counts of assault.

Officials say he got into a fight with his grandmother Sheila Grief, 78, inside of their Lincoln Ave home on February 19.
Michael apparently overdrew his grandmother's debit card by $1,000, prompting the altercation. She tried to run to a neighbor's house for help, that's when authorities say he "pressed his fingers into her eyes, one at a time, causing the globe of each eye to rupture."
Grief underwent an 8 hour surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital, but doctors say chances she'll regain her eyesight are slim.
"He seemed apathetic toward the situation, this is an individual who we consider dangerous and we have to take all appropriate action," Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini said.
Grief does not have any prior arrests, but authorities say he has a history of mental illness. He's being held on $500,000 cash bail and faces 25 years if convicted.
