CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A Long Island man faces charges of animal cruelty after authorities say they found nearly a dozen dogs stuck in crates filled with their own feces and urine.

The 11 dogs—10 pit bulls and a beagle mix—also didn’t have access to food and water, and one of them had bloody injuries and bite wounds, the Suffolk County SPCA says.

A dog that had untreated wounds to his head and chest required life-saving surgery, according to the SPCA.

A dead pit bull was also removed from the home on Nagle Lane in Central Islip, the SPCA says.

Photos of some of the dogs show them looking emaciated and weak.

Peter Watson, 55, was charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty by the SPCA after a search of the property.

He was rearrested after police say they found a felony amount of cocaine on the premises.
