
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say an MS-13 gang member has been sentenced on Long Island to 27 years in prison for the 2015 slaying of a teenager he suspected was a rival gang member.William Castellanos was sentenced on Thursday after pleading guilty last year to firearms-related murder charges in connection with the death of 16-year-old Jonathan Cardona-Hernandez.Prosecutors say the 22-year-old Castellanos and his co-conspirators drove the victim to an area in Central Islip where they took turns shooting him with a semi-automatic handgun.Cardona-Hernandez was struck by at least 10 bullets and was found dead on the street.MS-13 has been blamed for a spate of killings on Long Island since 2010.
