Long Island mom desperate to find cherished rings stolen from dressing room

BAY SHORE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A Long Island woman feels 'helpless' and 'violated' after her cherished rings were stolen from a clothing store's dressing room. She's hoping whoever took the bands will find the heart to return them this holiday season.

Megan Miner was trying on clothing at the American Eagle store in the Westfield Mall in Bay Shore on Tuesday when the three rings went missing.

She had taken off her engagement ring, wedding band and a ring with the birthstones of her children because the rings were getting caught on the clothes.

She laid them on a bench and then left the dressing room briefly. When she returned, they were gone.

Miner told 1010 WINS that the rings are worth thousands of dollars but that their sentimental value can't be measured.

"They remind me of being engaged to my husband in Mexico after being together since we were 17 years old, and him working hard to save this money to buy this ring for me to ask me to marry him. They represent the birthstones of my find kids," she said.

Miner says she reached out to American Eagle's corporate headquarters but didn't get any answers.

Suffolk County Police are investigating the incident. Meanwhile, Miner hopes the person who took the rings will do the right thing.

"I know a lot of people are feeling like this is silly: 'Let's just move on, it's just jewelry.' And I get that, and of course, that's what I'll have to do if they aren't returned," Miner said. "But they hold sentiment. They represent a marriage and they represent my children, and they mean something to me."
