NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Long Island Rail Road employee tested positive for the coronavirus, officials announced Sunday.
The employee last worked on March 7. He is a sheet metal worker who does not work onboard trains or interact directly with customers," MTA Chairman Pat Foye said in a statement.
The employee was in quarantine and the MTA disinfected his workplace multiple times, Foye said.
Epidemiologists with the state Department of Health are handling follow up on the case, including notifying those who may have come into contact with the employee and tracing others who may have been exposed, Foye said.

The MTA has been informed by the State Department of Health that a Long Island Rail Road employee tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The employee, who was last at work on March 7, is a sheet metal worker who does not work on-board trains or interact directly with customers. The employee is in quarantine receiving appropriate care and the MTA has disinfected his workplace multiple times and is monitoring the situation closely. We expect to see additional cases reported as testing continues to ramp up, which will help us contain the spread of this virus. As we have for weeks, the MTA is aggressively disinfecting our workplaces, trains, stations and buses around the clock to keep our employees and customers as safe as possible.
