NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 52-year-old man has died after being struck Friday afternoon by a U.S. Postal Service truck as he was crossing a street in Brooklyn, police said.

The incident took place around 5 p.m. in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The victim -- who was transported to Interfaith Hospital where he was pronounced dead -- was identified as Charles McClean, 52, of Brooklyn. When police arrived at the scene, McClean has "severe trauma to the body," police said.

"An investigation revealed that a U.S. Postal Service truck was heading west bound on MacDougal Street and came to a stop at Howard Avenue," police said in a statement. "The vehicle began to drive forward and struck the pedestrian, who was crossing MacDougal Street."

The driver remained on scene.
