Man arrested for throwing rocks at 4 consulate buildings in Manhattan

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man has been arrested for allegedly throwing rocks at at least four consulate buildings in Manhattan over the past month, according to a report.

Reza Mashayekhi, 34, allegedly tossed rocks at the Venezuela Consulate on East 46th Street on July 25, the New York Post reported. Several weeks later, on Aug. 9, he targeted the Italian Consulate at East 69th Street and Park Avenue, according to the outlet.

He was arrested and charged with criminal mischief for the Aug. 9 incident, the outlet reported.

After that arrest, however, he reportedly continued targeting consulate buildings, damaging the Russian Consulate on East 91st Street on Aug. 10 and damaging the Ukrainian Consulate on East 49th Street on Aug. 13 and Aug. 16. A U.S. Department of State spokesperson confirmed that the Russian Consulate was vandalized.

Law enforcement sources told the Post Mashayekhi may have also been responsible for attacking the German Consulate and the Latvian Mission within the past month. The Consul of Greece, meanwhile, confirmed to The National Herald that someone vandalized the Consulate General of Greece on Aug. 8.

His attorney information wasn’t immediately available Wednesday.
