HACKENSACK, N.J. (1010 WINS) – A young New Jersey woman is dead and a man is facing charges after she reportedly suffered neck compression while having sex with him in her car.
Michael Gaffney, 21, was charged with reckless manslaughter in the death of 19-year-old Francis Garcia, of Maywood, after a Halloween party at a high-rise in Hackensack.
Gaffney, also of Maywood, is being held without bail pending a court appearance.
Garcia was found dead early Saturday in her car on the roof of the parking garage near the high-rise on Prospect Avenue.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella says Gaffney had left the party with her.
Gaffney told authorities the pair had taken some prescription drugs and were having sex in the backseat when she lost consciousness, according to the New York Post.
Garcia reportedly died from "compression injuries to her neck."
In a statement, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella called it a "suspicious death."
Elaine Ferreira is a neighbor of the young woman. She told PIX11: "There are many things that happen in life that you really can't assume or make judgement on anybody's life. It's a sad thing. I feel sorry for her and the family."
