
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A pedestrian attempting to cross the street was fatally struck by a box truck in Queens Monday morning, officials say.
The 40-year-old man was hit at about 6:30 a.m. in front of 124-50 Metropolitan Avenue in the Kew Gardens section.
The victim was transported to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced police said.
The accident may be the first pedestrian death in New York City in over two months.
There had been no pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle in the city since the coronavirus outbreak, making it the longest period without a pedestrian death the city began tracking those deaths in 1983.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene.
Officials have not released the victim's name and no arrests have been made.
